An Auspicious Orctober
Share
Five years ago today, I hit the “Publish” button on my first novel, shook my head, swore at myself, and went to bed.
Orconomics sold 14 copies in that first October. I was telling myself that I’d never have more than a couple hundred readers, that it was okay to fail so long as I tried, that at least this way I’d know the book wasn’t meant to go anywhere. And honestly, that helped numb the fear of failure and keep me pressing on.
I’m so glad I did.
Since I hit the “Publish” button, I’ve sold over 26,000 copies. I published a sequel, and a holiday spin-off. I won awards, including the incredibly fun Self-Publishing Fantasy Blog Off. But best of all, genuinely, is that I’ve encountered some truly amazing people. That includes some awesome authors that I admire, true. But it also includes readers I’ve talked to on social media (and that one at a convention). It includes people from around the world who have sent me emails and messages of support. It’s just been amazing, all the way through.
So thank you.
Thank you for reading my books. Thank you for telling your friends you liked them. Thank you for being a part of my author journey.
I’m personally celebrating the community that’s grown up around me this month. That mostly involves indulging in bottled margaritas and reading notes from fans, but I’m also setting up a few different ways you can join me in the festivities.
- All month, I’ll be thanking my patrons with a giveaway offer and an exclusive contest to win great Orconomics prizes
- Later this month, I’ll be starting a free raffle contest for anyone to join, Patron or not, with some very similar awesome Orconomics prizes
- There will be a sale at my online shop, in addition to exclusive offers for people who have signed up for my Newsletter
I hope you’ll join in the fun, just like I hope you’ll stick with me for another five years. I can’t wait for what comes next as I take Arth through the thrilling events of Dragonfired and beyond.
