It’s April Fool’s Day, a time for businesses of all sizes to get in on the collective joke by releasing prank announcements. You know, like when Blizzard announced a Murlock-language version of Hearthstone or a toy company announced an app to help dogs code? Or what if I announced that I wrote a story lampooning non-fungible assets and related speculation, and I made it a love story? Ha ha! Ha….
No, seriously. I did. I did exactly that. And then I picked the worst day possible to announce it.
Crypt Currency Is Coming
The next novel set on Arth hits Kickstarter in a couple of weeks and launches this May. Crypt Currency finds Gorm Ingerson in his new(ish) job as a guildmaster in the marginally-less-corrupt-than-before Heroes’ Guild. Now he's up against a financial revolution, a rising tide of undead, and a cultural reckoning that's entirely his own fault. It’s a story about financial wizardry, necromancy, and (naturally) love. If you’ve read The Dark Profit Saga, it’s a fun trip to your other favorite capitalist hellscape. If you haven’t, you can still enjoy Crypt Currency, but why not get a head start on Gorm’s saga thus far?
The Kickstarter campaign launches in mid-April, with the ebook releasing in May. Here's what's in the campaign:
- Ebook, paperback, and signed hardcover editions
- A deluxe collector's edition with faux leather binding, foil stamping, and a slipcase — the kind of book that looks like it was bound by monks who had strong opinions about typography
- A handful of guest-appearance slots if you want a character named after you in an upcoming short story or novel (survival not guaranteed, but I promise to make it memorable)
- Digital extras including maps, a bonus short story, and a satirical investment prospectus for everybody's favorite noncorporeal money
